Case overview
In one of the most emotionally profound and technically demanding projects undertaken by VizioFly, we developed a Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR) experience to reunite Raphael’s parents with a digital version of their late son. The goal was to create an environment where remembrance, presence, and interaction converge meaningfully. Using limited archival materials—photos, short videos, and voice clips—Raphael was brought back to life in a highly immersive experience. This project not only showcased the emotional power of immersive technology but also set new standards for how VR and AI can be used to process grief, preserve memories, and foster healing in the most human way possible.
The Brief
The project’s brief was both technically and emotionally sensitive: to recreate Raphael as a digital avatar so his parents could interact with him in VR as part of a remembrance journey. With minimal reference materials available, the challenge was to faithfully replicate his appearance, voice, and personality. The parents were to experience this moment through a seamless Mixed Reality environment using Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 3 headsets, enhanced with greenscreen integration to simulate co-presence. The request required precision, empathy, and innovation, as it would be the first time the parents could “see” and “speak” with Raphael since his passing.
Our Approach
Our team combined facial reconstruction, voice synthesis, and character animation to build Raphael’s digital avatar with remarkable fidelity despite the limited data. We used AI-assisted voice recreation and photo-based modeling to form a convincing likeness of Raphael. A greenscreen studio was integrated into the experience, allowing both the parents and the avatar to exist within the same virtual environment through Mixed Reality. The final experience was delivered using Meta Quest Pro and Meta Quest 3 headsets, offering spatial realism and emotional resonance. Throughout the process, our team worked closely with the family to ensure emotional sensitivity and respect were upheld at every stage.
